While the icy conditions the Northeast is currently experiencing may be a nuisance to you, frozen sidewalks are nothing compared to the scare at LaGuardia airport this morning. At one of the nation’s busiest airports, a non-stop flight from Atlanta was scheduled to touch down just after 11 AM this morning. The flight went according to plan until the landing, when the landing gear on the plane failed to get traction on the ice. What ensued was 20 seconds of skidding and swerving as the plane drifted off the runway due to the ice. The Plane eventually came to a halt after its nose broke through a fence that separated the airport from the surrounding ocean. Fortunately, no one received serious injuries. Authorities have closed the airport for several hours until 7 PM tonight in order to de-ice all the runways and ensure the safety of all passengers.
